Practicing at Pitlochry driving range

Golf Around Pitlochry

Golfers visiting Pitlochry will find an excellent Golf Shop on Main Street. There are a number of very good golf courses within a half hour’s drive from the cottage. There are options for both 9 hole and 18 hole courses which can cater for a range of golfing abilities. Courses tend to either lie in river valleys, or be on the adjacent hill slopes. The latter can offer stunning views. Some have pro-shops and can offer full clubhouse facilities whilst others offer limited facilities.

The 18 hole courses are:
• Pitlochry
• Dunkeld and Birnam
• Taymouth Castle
• Aberfeldy

The 9 hole courses are:
• Blair Atholl
• Mains of Taymouth (Kenmore)
• Strathtay

Pitlochry – 18 hole
There is a well stocked and welcoming pro-shop and full clubhouse facilities. Catering facilities are
restricted in winter months, so times would need to be checked.
There is a golf range and facilities include a Golfing Academy.
Trolleys, motorised trolleys and buggies can be hired, though buggies are not allowed in the winter season which starts on 1st. The first three holes are ‘uphill’ and the locals say it is flat thereafter. Most holes are undulating and the whole course is kept in an excellent condition and is a good testing course. There are a few holes that have a steep descent from the tees.
The stunning views down the Tummel valley make playing this course well worthwhile even on a bad day’s golf!

Dunkeld and Birnam – 18 hole

There is a modestly stocked shop within the clubhouse. The clubhouse has a friendly welcoming atmosphere and offers full facilities. Trolleys and buggies can be hired throughout the year. This is an undulating course in good condition.

Taymouth Castle – 18 hole

An undulating woodland course. It is currently closed, but if reopened is well worth playing.

Aberfeldy – 18 Holes

A course situated on both banks of the river Tay. A flat course with several water hazards.

Blair Atholl – 9 hole

There is a modest clubhouse with an honesty box certainly during the winter season. It is a 9 hole course set in a valley, so is flat, but it is still a good and challenging course - classic James Braid. In the winter play is from mats that are supplied.

Mains of Taymouth (Kenmore) – 9 hole

Undulating fairways, this is a good and challenging course. Full clubhouse and facilities. Trolleys and buggies can be hired.

Par 68 SSS 67

Strathtay – 9 hole
A wooded parkland course this has 9 greens but 18 tees. Working your way round the holes may become interesting. It is located in the valley of the river Tay, so can become wet. The terrain is mostly flat and it is a fairly straightforward course.
Trolleys can be hired.
Fees are usually paid by an ‘honesty’ box.
